Press Release: Iranian step to uranium enrichment is “dangerous” and “reckless”

International Center For Relations & Diplomacy (ICRD) denounces the “irresponsible” Iranian step to where it will break the limit set on uranium enrichment, which is flagrant breach of the key 2015 Iran nuclear deal that designed to curb its nuclear ambitions of the country.

BBC and other news reports Deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi, said at a press conference on Sunday, Iran still wanted to salvage the deal but blamed European countries for failing to live up to their own commitments. Moreover, Iran would start enriching uranium above a concentration of 3.67% within a few hours. Later, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed that the steps were “reversible” if European countries delivered on their commitments.

The US unilaterally withdrew from the agreement in 2018. US President Donald Trump announced to fulfill the election campaign promise, which is to drop out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. This agreement was appraised by the US former Secretary of State,  John Kerry, to be making the world a safer place. However, Mr. Trump said that this deal is decaying and rotten, “The US will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail or allow a regime that chants Death to America to gain nuclear weapons.”

Ever since then, the other countries signing the 2015 Iran nuclear deal have been striving to maintain the relations with Iran despite constant tensions escalating between the US and Iran.

ICRD Director Sameh Habeeb denounced the new Iranian announcement and described it as “reckless” and “dangerous”

“Iran is again navigating in the wrong direction. The region is not in need for further nuclear race which could be fueled by this step. Instead, Iran should continue its talks with the Europeans to mediate solving the current fall out with the American Administration. The only way to solve current crisis by is talks and not hostile policies” said Mr. Habeeb.

Our Concerns

ICRD invites all parties to ensure that dialogue to solve differences. Arms race and attacks by proxies against Gulf countries is reckless and dangerous. The Arab Gulf region is needless for further conflicts and peace is the only option for all parties.

In the same instance, ICRD invites the American Administration and the EU to immediately resume talks on Iran’s nuclear programme and proliferation. ICRD urges Iran to stop its aggressive policies in the region where its proxies such as the Houthis intensifies their attacks on Saudi Arabia civilian airports of Abha and Jazan.
